Most game management units are open to over-the-counter harvest ticket holders, with a few areas restricted to draw-only permit hunts. These draw areas are typically designed to reduce hunting pressure rather than manage for trophy-class bulls. With that in mind, hunters can find quality experiences that match their expectations in nearly any region of the state. Moose hunting in Alaska has never been more popular. Hunters who prefer a fully guided experience rather than handling their own logistics should consider booking through Huntin’ Fool Adventures. Fully outfitted moose hunts in Alaska generally run between $28,000 and $45,000. Serious hunters would be wise to start planning now, even if their goal is several years away.

There is no longer such a thing as a “budget-friendly” do-it-yourself moose hunt for non-residents. Even self-guided hunt packages offered by licensed transporters typically range from $8,000 to $15,000 per hunter, covering logistics, fuel, and transportation. Most also require a minimum of two hunters per group. While the price may seem high for a self-guided hunt, it reflects today’s reality of hunting in Alaska. Many reputable transporters are already booked two or more years in advance for drop-off hunts.
